Brief about Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost state of India. Pakistan occupies parts of its northern region (“Pak Occupied Kashmir”), while China holds Aksai Chin. India considers these occupations illegal while Pakistan considers Indian Jammu and Kashmir a disputed territory. The official language of the state is Urdu.

Jammu city is the largest city of Jammu province and the winter capital of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Srinagar, located in Kashmir, is the capital of the state during the summer season. The border areas of Kashmir are joined by Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sinkiang and Tibet.

5 August 2019 Jammu and Kashmir have got the status of Union Territory including Legislative Assembly. Ladakh has also been separated from Jammu and Kashmir and given the status of a separate union territory.
